OTHER BIBLE STUDY GROUPS & SMALL GROUPS

What is a small group?  A small group is a gathering, usually three to twelve people, who meet together for a common purpose.  Jesus started his ministry with a group of twelve disciples - his “small group”.

There are many small group venues.  A GROWTH group usually meets weekly and is designed to help people grow spiritually.  STUDY groups are for people who like to be involved in Bible studies or book studies.  SUPPORT groups are made up of people with a particular focus who provide each other moral support, information and advice on problems relating to some shared characteristic or  experience.  SERVING groups are for people who would like to be part of a team who have a common task, and what brings them together is doing something as a group.  SOCIAL groups are for people to get together and       develop friendships around a common interest like tennis or fishing.  In all small groups, people interact in ways that influence each other.  The participants of the group offer mutual acceptance, support for one another’s goals, and encouragement for life’s challenges.

SUNDAY BIBLE STUDY - 6:00 P.M. - meets every Sunday in the church parlor.  Our last study was Adam Hamilton’s books on different religions around the world.  We try to use studies that we can apply to our daily lives using scriptural references.  Our next study, beginning on May 3rd, will be “Did Christ really rise from the dead?”, a study booklet from RBC ministries.  The contact person is Opal Armstrong at 393- 2721.

MONDAY BIBLE STUDY - 2:00 P.M. - meets every Monday.  The usual location is the conference room.  For a few weeks we have been meeting in the YO-ME-CO classroom which is off the hallway between Hiestand hall and the back entrance to the newer addition.  We will be there through May 11th while we view the DVD message and study “What In The World Is Going On” - Ten     Prophetic Clues You Cannot Afford To Ignore.  We will be back in the conference room on May 18th after which we will adjourn until the Monday following Labor Day in September.  The men and women in our group invite  anyone who would like to join us for an hour of Bible study, prayer and fellowship.  Come and join your friends as we grow in a deeper relationship with our loving    Savior.  The contact persons are Dave and Lois Williams at 393-1477.

MONDAY BIBLE STUDY - 2:30 P.M. - meets every Monday in Riber hall.  The study recently completed was on the Book of Ruth.  This group of women, of a wide range of ages, is studying the book, “Loved by God” by Liz Curtis Higgs based on the chapters of Genesis 25 through 29.  Liz Higgs is a master storyteller who makes a workbook which helps guide the group in their discussion.  This group also shares in sponsoring a Compassion Child.  The contact persons are Catherine Meade at 393-4031 and Opal   Armstrong at 393-2721.

MONDAY BIBLE STUDY - 7:00 P.M. -  meets every Monday in the church parlor.  This group is a praying, bible studying and discussion group.  We usually use the Fisherman Bible Study books, which focus on a book of the Bible or a Bible character.  Come join in our time of prayer and study.  Everyone is welcome!  The contact person is Suzanne Devore at 288-2352.

MONDAY PURPOSE GROUP - 6:30 P.M. - meets the 1st and 3rd Monday each month in Riber hall.  The group consists of church members varying in age from teens to seniors.  Our group likes to “do things” for others.  We do various service projects such as provide baby sitting nights, prepare an annual dinner for our young adults, host dinners for new members, take dinners and receiving blankets to new mothers, adopt a Christmas family and more.  This group was started when the entire church was participating in a forty day study on Rick Warren’s     Purpose Driven Life book.  Over the years we have grown to love and support each other through many good and also trying times in our own individual lives.  We want to show our love for Christ to others by our activities, our prayers and our service.  If you are interested in forming a new small group, we would be happy to help you get started.  The contact persons are David and Marilyn Myers at 393-4594 or Tom and Martha Watkins at 840-0112.

If you are a member of a Bible study or small group that is not listed, please submit information about your group to the church office or email webadmin(at)hillsboromethodist.org.  Your information will be added to this listing.
